We literally took a high-speed train for 527km from Kunming to Lijiang…
For bread.
Not even special bread.
She just said
“Daddy, I want to try this flower pastry bread…”
I’m like… there’s no such thing.
Bread… with flowers?
What is this, a garden?
Anyway, 3+ hours later, we arrive in Lijiang Ancient Town…
And guess what she’s looking for?
A pastry.
Not a restaurant.
Not a famous attraction.
A. Pastry.
At this point I’m thinking…
We really traveled half a country for this 😑
Then we finally find it.
And I had to pause.
Because it’s real.
They call it rose petal bread… and it’s actually one of the most famous local snacks here.
Crispy on the outside.
Soft inside.
Filled with real rose petals 🌹
And somehow…
It works.
Like actually works.
Slightly sweet, a bit floral, super unique… nothing like I’ve ever tasted before.
Even the kids were confused at first…
Then suddenly Blaire goes
“Daddy… it’s yummy…”
And that’s when I knew.
Wife wins again 😅
From “this doesn’t exist”
to “okay… I’d travel again for this.”
