San Jose, Oakland, and Santa Clara County shelters trusted Miranda’s Rescue in Fortuna, California with over 1,200 dogs since 2020.
Now the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating allegations that the founder accepted transfer fees of up to $1,450 per dog, then killed them to make room for more.
Oakland’s shelter director found out one of his dogs was dead through a photo of a mass grave. San Jose alone sent 140 dogs. The rescue reportedly collected $510,000 in a single year. All Bay Area agencies have cut ties.
